Lincoln County Fair
As summer days come to an end, many anticipate the annual Lincoln County Fair. This year the fair is Aug. 21-24 at the fairgrounds in Eureka. This traditional county fair offers something of interest for one and all.
From the garden and art displays, live entertainment, game and vendor booths, and livestock shows to a parade, the fair offers variety. The theme this year is “Gone Country.”
A new addition now in its second year at the fair is “Kidsville”, a carnival of fun for kids of all ages on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Another popular fair event is the “Co-op Day Fair,” in which Lincoln Electric and InterBel co-ops sponsor rides for adults and children in a bucket truck. Other highlights of the fair include a quilt auction, a petting zoo, and horse shows. A flower exhibit is another popular attraction.
On Friday night you can be apart of the Arena games, free for kids and parents, with old fashioned group contests.
Saturday night, Aug. 23, the rodeo stands fill with spectators for one of the fair’s biggest attractions – The Bull Thing. This rodeo event is a night of bull riding and more and the big purse draws some of the top bull riders from around the state and Canada. The event is open to amateurs as well as professional cowboys, and the competition is always tough.
Horse and buggy rides will be available to transport Bull Thing viewers to and from the event.
The fair is educational in nature and encourages residents to strive for better garden products and livestock, as well as improving the domestic skills of canning, sewing, and baking. Exhibitors compete for ribbons and cash awards. The extensive art exhibits reflect considerable talent in our corner of the state.
But it also serves as one of the biggest social events of the year, with residents and visitors enjoying the food and fun that surround the fair.
Always a worthwhile stroll, the fair is a must for residents and visitors, too.
