Stone Hill Climbing
Stone Hill on Highway 37 continues to be a magnet to rock climbing enthusiasts in northwest Montana and southeast British Columbia. It is particularly popular in the spring when most other climbing areas are still snowed in.
Aside from its accessibility, the rock cliffs at Stone Hill are considered a good climb. Stone Hill has been rated technically moderate to difficult by rock climbing groups and is considered an “excellent climbing area.” The rock there is relatively solid.
Stone Hill is located three miles south of Koocanusa Bridge on Highway 37. There are several places to pull off along the highway for those who want to stop and watch the climbers. There is usually someone climbing the sheer rock cliff during the summer months. |
