Welcome to Montana's Tobacco Valley

Yes, there was tobacco in the valley at one time, and the area's first citizens, the Kootenai Indians, made use of it. Nowadays, you'll mostly find it in name only: the Tobacco River, Tobacco Siding, Tobacco Plains, of course the Tobacco Valley and so forth.

Home to over 4,400 permanent residents from Stryker in the south to Eureka and Midvale in the north, the Tobacco Valley straddles the Canadian border to the north, the Whitefish Mountains to the east and the Purcell Mountains to the west.

With over a million acres of national forest land, the area's recreational activities are many and varied. Hunting and fishing remain strong traditions of local residents and draw visitors from around the country. But you'll find others, such as snowmobiling and hiking. And opportunities continue to grow with the area's population as others discover the wonders of the Tobacco Valley.
