Eureka Christian School began in a church basement in 1993. Today, after two moves, a school merger, and a name change, the school is settled into its current location just a little bit north of Eureka on Highway 93.

ECS is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that depends on tuition, fund-raising, and donations. The school is non-denominational and is operated under the leadership of a five-member board that is made up of parents, local church leaders, and business owners.
New to Eureka Christian School this year is teacher and principal Linda Hazel and teacher Don Hazel. Linda takes over administrative duties from last years principal, Bonita Bontrager, and along with her husband Don, teaches a number of high school classes. The school had been searching for a new principal and high school teachers when the Hazels heard about the school and contacted ECS. The final details came together the week school was to begin, and it appears the schools search for long term adminstration is over.
It was definitely an answer to prayer, said school secretary Martha Chupp. Ive been impressed with how they just stepped in and filled their role.
Linda Hazel saw the opportunity as an open door and is excited to see the fruits yet to come. The couple feel this is going to be a long term commitment, something the school has been praying to see.
It was really about asking God where we were supposed to be, Hazel said. And finding the place where things seemed to develop... and it all lined up.
ECS presently has 21 students enrolled in the classes offered this year: pre-school to 12th grade. With one part time and five full-time teachers, the class sizes are small and the school has a small country schoolhouse feel. The family-like atmosphere encourages learning and individual attention, and several volunteer teachers bring extracurricular subjects like music and art into the mix.
Each child is cared for and encouraged to grow in book knowledge and in Christ. ECS uses Christian-based textbooks and emphasizes high-quality education with an emphasis on acquiring thinking skills along with subject knowledge.
We want to excite the children and teach them to love each other and to learn scholastically to become excited about being a person of excellence, Hazel added.
