Aug. 29 was marked by the 75th charter anniversary celebration in Whitefish, and Jim Kenyon became the new CEO/president in September.
WCU took pride in hiring local Bob Helms and Mostly Montana Construction as the general contractor of the new building. Even much of the furniture was built locally by Lodgecraft Furniture by Montana Wood Designs.
The new building opened for business on Monday, May 4, and the grand opening was held Saturday, May 30, with nearly 600 folks attending a community picnic.
It is all about serving our members better, commented JoAn Cuffe, local manager and loan officer. This allows us to a offer a few additional services such as the drive through teller station and safety deposit boxes.
She and Marilyn Parrish opened a new store front office for WCU seven and a half years ago. They were soon joined by Desiree Bean, then Karri Stenslie, and Shawn Lewis is the newest teller.
Whitefish Credit Union was founded in 1934 by five railroaders who each contributed $5 for total assets of $25. Currently, total assets are $1.15 billion, and there are six other offices located in Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, Polson and Thompson Falls.
Anyone who lives in Flathead, Lake, Lincoln or Sanders counties or within 50 air miles of Whitefish can join.
Along with celebrating the 75th anniversary, the celebration in Whitefish also noted the retirement of Charlie Abell, who had been at WCU for 44 years, the last 42 as CEO/president.
James A. Jim Kenyon took over the reins as chief executive officer on Sept. 14. Kenyon was employed the past 16 years at Missoula Federal Credit Union, 14 years as senior vice president responsible for operations and lending. He holds a degree in business management with an emphasis on administration from the University of Montana.
In announcing the appointment, WCU Board Chairman Leo Tracy said:
"The board of directors is fortunate and pleased to have Jim Kenyon at the helm. He has sound experience and the leadership style necessary to guide the Whitefish Credit Union as it continues forward as Montanas premier credit union.
